Yesterday we went for a bit of a hike to Pilot Rock. Let me start off by saying the guide "100 Best Hikes in Southern Oregon" sucks, I don't know how many times I have used this book to guide me to get to a certain hiking trail and the directions lead me no where. But on to the hike, the guide book said it was only a 1.2 miles round trip hike so we opted for this just for the shortness and not knowing the weather since it had been raining here for 3 days. The book stated this was a moderate hike but I would say closer to difficult. lots of places there was no trail and scaling rocks on our hands and knees. It was very rewarding nevertheless because the views of Mt McLaughlin and Mt Shasta were wonderful. I would try to do this again but minus my camera bag and lenses. The weather was perfect for such a hike, not to hot and not to cold it was great for being October.
